If you are a professor/instructor, we collect your email address, your first name and last name, and the name of your school. We use the email address to send you technical and content-related updates about the site. Instructors may also receive a weekly email about how to teach using our resources. Instructors can opt out of this weekly email at any time.

If you are a student of a teacher using our class, we collect only enough data for your teacher to be able to identify you. That can be as little as a first and last initial. An email address is not required (though your teacher may instruct you to provide one for their convenience). STUDENT INFORMATION IS NEVER SHARED WITH ANYONE FOR ANY PURPOSE.

If you have purchased a monthly subscription to our website for your individual use, we collect your first name, last name, and an email address. We will use your email address to let you know about website updates and respond to service requests regarding your account. We will also periodically email you with learning and study tips; you can opt out of these emails at any time. WE WILL NEVER SELL YOUR DATA TO A THIRD PARTY. 

Usage Data

We may also collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service or when you access the Service by or through a mobile device (“Usage Data”).

This Usage Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

Payments

If you are a teacher using our website, you must purchase a teacher license that follows a free-trial period. You may purchase that license yourself, or your school may purchase it for you.  In either case, we use third-party services for payment processing (e.g. payment processors).

We will not store or collect your payment card details. That information is provided directly to our third-party payment processors whose use of your personal information is governed by their Privacy Policy. These payment processors adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American
Express and Discover. PCI-DSS requirements help ensure the secure handling of payment information.

If you or your school have any concerns about payment security, we also accept payment by check.

If you are a teacher’s student using our site, you do not pay for use. Your teacher or school has already paid for you.

Links to Other Sites

Our Service may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click a third party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

Children’s Privacy

Our service is geared towards college-level or AP (or IB or Honors) Biology students. Some of these students may be legally classified as children. Our app will only collect identifying information about users as instructed by their instructor. This can be as minimal as a first and last initial. Email address collection is NOT required. No other information (age, geographical information, etc. is collected). The information we do collect is not shared with anyone for any purpose. If a student is instructed by their teacher to provide their email, and then contacts us for support via email,  we use the information submitted only to provide support.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

We will let you know via email and/or a prominent notice on our Service, prior to the change becoming effective and update the “effective date” at the top of this Privacy Policy.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.

Appendix 1: Compliance with New York State Section 2-D (Unauthorized release of personally identifiable information)

Under Section-2-D sciencemusicvideos L.L.C is a “third party contractor”. The websites operated by sciencemusicvideos L.L.C  (www.sciencemusicvideos.com and www.Learn-Biology.com) are compliant with NY State Section 2-D. Specifically,

  1. To use our interactive tutorials, the only student information that is required is information that teachers need in order to track a student’s performance on our interactive tutorials. For example, a student whose name is Ray Davis can be logged into our system as Ray D, or even R D. We do not require a student email address.
  2. We will never sell or release a student’s personally identifiable information for any commercial purpose.
  3. We will never sell or use student data for marketing purposes.
  4. We will never sell or disclose personally identifiable information to any other party.
  5. A student may challenge the accuracy of student performance data through their teacher. The teacher, in turn, can contact us at [email protected]
  6. We “maintain reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect the security, confidentiality and integrity of personally identifiable student information in [our] custody.”
  7. We use the latest industry standard encryption technologies to protect data in motion.
  8. We are happy to sign any District’s or School’s Parent Bill of Rights for Data Security and Privacy.
