Heart muscle is capable of an astounding feat: stimulating itself to beat in a coordinated way. The basis of this coordination involves cardiac muscle conduction: the way electrical signals move throughout the heart. Starting at the sinoatrial node and traveling through the AV node, bundle of His, bundle branches, and Purkinje fibers, this system ensures the atria and ventricles contract in the right sequence. Use the practice activities below to master the structures and sequence of the cardiac conduction system.
